Position Title: Technical Manager
Location: British Columbia, Remote, Lower Mainland
Compensation: Competitive compensation aligned with experience, overtime and bonus eligible
Reports To: Technical Lead
Probation: 3 Months
Position Overview:
The Technical Manager plays a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving technical excellence and overseeing the successful execution of our environmental service lines. This position ensures the company’s work meets the highest standards of scientific and regulatory integrity, while fostering innovation, mentorship, and continuous improvement among technical staff. The Technical Manager will serve as the lead authority on technical project delivery and support cross-functional coordination with the Operations and Project Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership and Quality Assurance
Lead the development and refinement of methodologies for environmental monitoring, inspections, restoration, construction, biophysical, and invasive species management etc.
Review and approve technical deliverables, field methodologies, and reporting outputs.
Ensure all technical work meets industry best practices, regulatory compliance, and project-specific requirements.
Project Oversight and Execution
Oversee technical scopes of work across all projects and ensure timelines, deliverables, and budgets are adhered to.
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to coordinate team deployment and address field-level challenges.
Ensure technical staff are effectively resourced and supported on all project sites.
Staff Mentorship and Development
Provide mentorship and training to Environmental Scientists, Biologists, and Technical Field Staff.
Conduct performance evaluations, identify skill gaps, and promote professional development opportunities.
Support recruitment and onboarding of technical staff in alignment with KLE’s growth strategy.
Innovation and Technical Growth
Identify opportunities to expand and strengthen service lines including wildlife monitoring, water quality assessments, and habitat restoration.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and methods in environmental science and incorporate into KLE practices.
Lead internal initiatives to improve data collection, reporting systems, and technical workflows.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, regulators, and Indigenous partners.
Provide clear and accurate communication regarding technical challenges, opportunities, and recommendations.
Participate in site visits, project meetings, and inspections as needed to represent KLE’s technical capabilities.
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
Ensure all projects adhere to environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
Develop ǪA/ǪC procedures and ensure technical data integrity across all reporting.
Support the preparation and review of permit applications, environmental management plans, and compliance documentation.
Qualifications:
Minimum 10–15 years of experience in environmental consulting or field-based scientific project management.
Professional designation preferred (R.P.Bio., P.Ag., P.Geo., or similar).
Proven expertise in environmental assessment, field protocols, and regulatory compliance.
Strong technical writing and quality assurance skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams.
Experience interfacing with clients, Indigenous communities, and regulatory bodies.
Valid BC driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as needed.
